NORTH DEVON GAIN A SPECIALIST IMMEDIATE CARE VOLUNTEER DOCTOR

BASICS Devon are excited to welcome Dr Simon Fairclough to their team of emergency volunteer

responders.

Dr Simon Fairclough

Dr Fairclough has completed his response driving course, had his blue lights fitted to his vehicle and has been supplied with BASICS Devon specialist medical equipment. His past experience both with the NHS, Defence Medical Services and as a volunteer with the West Midlands CARE team (Central Accident, Resuscitation & Emergency), means Simon is ready and raring to respond for BASICS Devon around the North Devon community.

Simon said ‘As a military doctor based at Chivenor, I’m looking forward to volunteering for BASICS Devon, being able to use my skills to support the community and help the NHS here in North Devon.’

BASICS Devon have been successful in gaining funding through a number of local charitable foundations and were a chosen cause by the Co-op Local Community Fund which raised an incredible £5,001.43 to help expand the team. We have also received national funding from British Association for Immediate Care, enabled by a donation from the County Air Ambulance HELP Appeal to cover the blue-light vehicle set up costs.

Dr Simon Scott-Hayward, Chairman of BASICS Devon said “We are excited to welcome Simon to the team and are enormously grateful for the support both locally and nationally, without which it would not have been possible to get Simon on the road”

Since July BASICS Devon volunteers have attended 203 callouts and arrived first on the scene at 34% of them. Having Dr Simon Fairclough on the team will make a lifesaving difference to the people across Devon, especially at this time where so many vulnerable and isolated individuals desperately need medical support.

The volunteers would like to thank all their funders, Co-op members, staff and customers for their amazing support and are thrilled to be able to show the impact of their donations and the lifesaving difference that they make.
