BASICS Devon is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. We’re hoping to raise vital funds to support our Specialist Emergency Volunteer Doctors, to continue to provide voluntary pre-hospital emergency medical care for the sick and injured across Devon.
With the health service in such demand, BASICS Devon can help treat patients before they reach the hospital. They give everyone immediate access to specialist pre hospital emergency medical care at the scene. Helping to reduce response times and long-term disability, access hard to reach areas and ultimately save lives.
BASICS Devon is the only voluntary service that offer this type of specialist service with higher clinical input in Devon. They can be at the scene within minutes, when every second counts.
Last November, Baby Iyla was born via Caesarean-section. (Pictured below with her parents Sam and Tom.) Iyla displayed no signs or symptoms to suggest that there would be any complications.
However, days later her parents discovered that Iyla had fallen unwell and had turned 'grey and floppy'. Fortunately, her parents began CPR and two BASICS Devon volunteer doctors, one of which Dr Angus Macdonald, arrived on the scene, to help save Iyla’s life.

If you can, it will help our team attend traumas like baby Iyla and her family, giving people a fighting chance of survival and ease their pain and suffering. Together we can reach more patients and further improve the patient care we can give in life threatening situations, day and night.
What happens during the Christmas Challenge?
Donations made to our project via theBigGive.org.uk will be doubled during the campaign. If you would like to support our work this year, we highly recommend doing so during the Christmas Challenge, when your donation will be doubled and make even more of a difference to the people of Devon.
